Music, Rocco Oppedisano aka Mr. O [email protected]
As a child, Rocco always had a passion for music but it wasn’t until middle school when he started taking piano lessons that his real love of the art form took shape. He has a B.A. in Music from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College (CUNY) and an M.A. in Music Education from Brooklyn College (CUNY). Rocco is trained in the Kodály method, receiving his training from New York University and from the Kodály Institute in Kecskemet, Hungary.
Mr. O oversees three music clubs. 4th-grade chorus, 5th-grade chorus and young composers. Students in these clubs meet once a week during their lunch period.
Christa has been teaching within NYC schools since 2008 as a teaching artist, and as a certified music teacher since 2012. She is excited and honored to join the dedicated staff at PS 261 teaching 1st, 2nd and 4th-grade music.
As an adjunct lecturer at Hunter College, Christa teaches private oboe instruction, chamber music, and orchestral performance practice. She is on the faculty at the Third Street Music School Settlement and has a private oboe studio.
An advocate for contemporary music, Christa is an auditioned member of the new music groups Alarm Will Sound and Ensemble Signal. As an active freelance performer in NYC, she plays for several Broadway shows, orchestras, and chamber ensembles.
In her spare time, Christa enjoys going to the beach, sing-alongs, and karaoke with friends, and is learning to play the ukulele with her six-year-old daughter, Ettaraine.
