Come to school on Monday, January 21st for our PS 261 Day of Service and Learning in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.The Social Action Committee has planned a powerful day of learning and service for families from 10am to 1pm. There will be service projects, singing, art activities and workshops where families can learn, serve, create and have fun together.  Workshops include: Children in the Civil Rights Movement, How to Be an Upstander, Food Justice, Protest Songs, Using Words and Images (on signs and buttons) to Make Change, Yemeni Arts and education on the situation in Yemen, Gender Creativity, Crochet Hats for Newborns, Block Clean Up and more).
This is a great way for families to spend the day off from school and immerse ourselves in Dr. King’s legacy and values. Please bring new socks (the most needed object of clothing in shelters) and food (low-sugar drink boxes, apples, oranges, granola bars, mini bags of pretzels…) for snack packs we will assemble for a nearby shelter.  More information will be coming in backpacks this week.
