A Message from our Principal, IA
Welcome! PS 261 is a community where your constructive involvement makes a difference. Whether it is volunteering in a classroom or chairing an event, your efforts have a direct impact on daily life in our school. As a native New Yorker, a product of public education, and an educator for 28 years, I cherish the opportunity to continue to be of service in public education alongside you. I started as a parent at PS 261 just like you, then grew into Principal over the years. Many of those years have been at my beloved 261. We hope that over time, you come to love being part of the PS 261 community as much as those of us who are returning for another school year do. At PS 261, staff, families and students work in each other’s company, navigating through today’s complex and shifting educational landscape through careful observation and thoughtful conversation. We invite you to find your own unique ways to contribute to this effort. At PS 261 we do our best to treat each other with kindness and consideration and to balance our own needs and wishes with those of the people around us. In this way, we work toward being a community that values both individual success and collective well-being. We understand that by living these values as adults, we are creating an environment that will encourage our children to do the same.
Our mission is to create a school community that reflects our democratic values of diversity, equity, and social justice. Through inquiry based learning, we nurture a sense of agency and intellectual engagement that extends beyond the classroom. Students develop empathy and critical thinking skills, and leave with a sense of confidence and commitment to community.
