My name is Nan O’Shea and  I will be teaching Theatre Arts to 3rd 4th and 5th graders.  I am over the moon!  Theater has been my passion and I have always managed to weave plays, music, poetry slams and creative movement into my yearlong curriculum as a classroom teacher.  Now I get to do it full time.

The 4th and 5th graders will be studying the OPERA in preparation for their trip to the MET. (More on that to come.)  Then the focus in fifth grade will be Shakespeare stories and plays. 4th graders will be creating scripts and acting out the Greek Myths.  The 3rd graders will be reading and acting out folktales from around the world to compliment their social studies unit. All Theater Arts students will be reading and reciting poems, playing theater games and singing and dancing throughout the year.

In addition to the upper grades I will be teaching class K-124 and 2-309.  I will be conducting a “Group Sing” with all the 1st grade classes and their teachers as well as all the 2nd grade classes and their teachers.  Group sing has been a tradition at P.S. 261 for a long time.  It’s a joyful gathering in front of the auditorium where we sing folk songs and have a grand time.

I will be working closely with each teacher to enhance whatever is needed in the classroom.  P.S. 261 is rich in the Arts and we offer so many opportunities in music, dance, visual art projects and now drama.

So looking forward to having you come see what your son or daughter is up to.
